We Remember…

We pause today to remember 11 years ago when the World Trade Center in New York City was hit by two hijacked aircraft, the Pentagon in our nation’s capital was struck by another hijacked aircraft, and when Flight 93 was heroically brought down over Pennsylvania by its passengers, not allowing any further attack to take place. We stop and remember those who went into the towers while others were running out. We stop to remember those who lost their lives on a morning when everything started out as normal.

Today, 11 years later, we stop to remember. We stop to think about the families that lost loved ones, parents who lost children, husbands who lost wives, and the list continues on. We pause to remember those who died in the line of duty on a day when their country called them into action to save lives. We remember those who ran back up after they were told to get out. We remember those who brought the plane down over Pennsylvania, instead of its intended target.

That day 11 years ago, we were united under one banner, under one flag, and under one saying. The banner and flag of the United States of America, and the saying, “God Bless America!” As a nation we were looking, searching, crying out for hope, peace, guidance, knowledge, authority, something to put our trust in. We found that with the saying, “God Bless America!” We were untied under the banner of Jesus Christ! The author, and perfecter of our faith in the Lord God Almighty!

Both believers and nonbelievers held fast to God that day and the days after. On a day that will be marked as one of the darkest days of this nation’s history, the banner of Jesus flew high! From the rubble of the towers, to the Pentagon, and the field in Pennsylvania, everyone looked with hope to God Almighty.

Political differences were put aside, racial inequalities were laid aside, and the cross of Jesus was on the mind of everyone in this nation.

So, why now, 11 years later, are we fighting the urge to resist Jesus? Why are we willing to resist the only hope that we can ever be fully satisfied in? Why are we turning our back on the Creator and the saving grace that is found in the cross of Christ?

Our nation must return to Jesus. We must lay aside the American Dream and look for Jesus – the hope and Savior of the world! If we truly want and desire God to bless America, then we must return to Him and his glory! We must seek the Kingdom of God, and the will of God.

September 11, 2001 is a day that we will never forget and always remember. We will remember that as a day that this nation turned to the only hope it had, and found it in Jesus. We will remember those who heroically risked their lives to save others, and we will remember Jesus – who died so that we may have life, if we believe in Him!
